Describe the environment, not just the color.
Identify the substrate, existing coating, signs of corrosion, operating temperature, cleaning process, and expected exposure. A coating used on an office door is not a specification for exposed structural steel. The conditions of service determine which system needs to be evaluated.
Make preparation measurable.
Provide the project specification, inspection requirements, access restrictions, and any known compatibility issues. Preparation method, surface condition, environmental limits, and required film thickness belong in a documented coating plan. Specialized work may require personnel, equipment, or qualifications beyond a general repaint.
Plan for return to operation.
Include shutdown windows, isolation needs, access equipment, and responsibility for moving or protecting equipment. Application, cure, inspection, and return to service are separate milestones. A schedule cannot be confirmed from paint quantity alone.
